Neutrogena Shine Control Powder

Neutrogena Shine Control Powder is one of the beauty items I stocked up on when I left the US… I literally have about ten packs.

I realised my usual finishing powders (Urban Decay Ultra Definition Finishing Powder and Cargo HD Picture Perfect Translucent Powder which is the same thing) just weren’t lasting long enough in the day. I would be shiny within a couple of hours.

I needed a new powder that was translucent, non-oxidising, that didn’t settle into lines, and that kept my skin matte without looking dry or cakey. In face powder ingredients, I look for silica (for absorbency) and silicones (which give a smooth finish), and I avoid talc which always goes cakey on me. After much surfing of the old internet to compare ingredients of every face powder available to mankind, I went out and bought Neutrogena Shine Control Powder.

The powder comes with a little sponge applicator which is too stiff to be effective, so I just use a powder puff – the type that comes in packs of three in beauty accessories aisles of most stores.

The powder is very fine and lightweight. Below is a heavy, unblended swatch of it on my hand. It looks white but really just needs the lightest touch to make it invisible.

It keeps my skin matte the whole day, and doesn’t oxidise or settle into lines at all. It ticks all the boxes for me. I love it. Extra marks for being in a handy mirrored compact and for being affordable. It’s around $14.99 but there’s always offers around the stores or online. I see it’s also being sold on Amazon.co.uk here.

I’m still on my first pack which has lasted at least four months so far. Thumbs up!
